Beating Bloat-My Top 5 Tricks.

image

Bloating or water retention is a drag and unfortunately it happens to the best of us. The top 5 things that I personally use to help battle this beast are the following:

1: Asparagus! This green gem really pulls excess water out of your body. I eat lots of this before a photo shoot or anytime I know my abs are going to be on display. I find it really makes a difference in flattening out that lower ab area that always seems to hold a little water.

2: Yogurt (plain-no flavor or sugar added-I prefer Greek but traditional yogurt works perfect too). I like to add a little stevia & vanilla extract on my own because the pre-sweetened & flavored ones are loaded with way too much sugar. Yogurt helps regulate the bacteria balance in your belly. If that is out of whack it can result in bloating & indigestion. I find that when I eat yogurt for a couple days in a row it generally results in a flatter belly.

3: Papaya & Pineapple! A serving of one of these tropical fruits can battle bloating because both contain unique enzymes that help your body breakdown food especially hard to digest protein. Papaya contains papain and pineapple contains bromelain. I follow a high protein diet so eating one of these fruits regularly really helps me keep my belly tight.

4: Green Tea! I love tea & especially green tea. Not only has it been linked to helping fight fat due to the EGCG it contains but it also is a natural diuretic which means it helps pull water out of your body. Try drinking 2-3 cups a day to reduce puffiness.

5: Epsom Salt Baths! Taking a 20-30 minute warm bath that has 2 heaping cups of epsom salts dissolved in it can draw toxins, excess water, & other impurities from your body plus it soothes sore muscles as an added bonus. This is because epsom salt is actually magnesium & sulphate which absorbs into the body through the open pores in our skin resulting in a detoxification of the body. This is an old school way to de-bloat which has been around for a long time. Not only is it relaxing but in my opinion it really works. It’s also really inexpensive so it’s worth a shot even if you’re skeptical 😉

These tricks along with working out, drinking lots of water, & avoiding excess sodium or additives is what I rely on to beat bloat. As always everyone’s body is different so take that into account when applying any of these to your own life.
